Bovey MN was Bombed!!!

Christ Spoo, 1942 with Great Northern Railroad whorehouse exploded. Photo complements of the FBI

Some local history of Bovey, MN

In 1942 Mr. Christ Spoo purchased an old building in Bovey, Minnesota from the Great Northern Railroad.  He purchased the building to demolish it and salvage the lumber it contained.  He was told by some co-workers in the mines that if he hung a half of a stick of dynamite from the rafters of the building he could loosen up the nails and make the demolition easier.  Christ decided to hang three sticks instead.  The results are shown.

This effort of Christ's almost ended up getting him deported back to his native country of Germany.  World War II was going strong at the time and the Federal Government did not take too kindly to the fact that a German Immigrant was detonating high explosives in a Northern Minnesota Community.  Somehow Christ was allowed to stay in the United States but he did lose his job in the mine he was working for because he stole the dynamite and blasting caps from them.
